Moel Famau Wildlife

There is a wide range of wildlife that habitat Moel Famau. Some of it you may never see as some of the animals are nocturnal. Here’s a brief list of what lives on Moel Famau:

Mammals

Foxes and badgers forage at night. Hares and rabbits graze on the lower slopes. Weasel, stoat and polecat hunt in the area. Remember to always respect wildlife. Badgers are a protected species under UK law.

Birds

Most heather clad areas hold Red Grouse but these are elusive unless accidently flushed. Common birds include:

  • Meadow Pipits
  • Whinchat
  • Stonechat
  • Skylark
  • Wheatear
  • Curlew

Ravens, Buzzards, Peregrine and Kestrel can be seen over most of the moorland, with Hen Harrier and Merlin flying low over the slopes.
