Moel Famau Wildlife
There is a wide range of wildlife that habitat Moel Famau. Some of it you may never see as some of the animals are nocturnal. Here’s a brief list of what lives on Moel Famau:
Mammals
Foxes and badgers forage at night. Hares and rabbits graze on the lower slopes. Weasel, stoat and polecat hunt in the area. Remember to always respect wildlife. Badgers are a protected species under UK law.
Birds
Most heather clad areas hold Red Grouse but these are elusive unless accidently flushed. Common birds include:
- Meadow Pipits
- Whinchat
- Stonechat
- Skylark
- Wheatear
- Curlew
Ravens, Buzzards, Peregrine and Kestrel can be seen over most of the moorland, with Hen Harrier and Merlin flying low over the slopes.
